Giving Goddess: unx-art debutes its Freetown Space
UNX.ART: From Freetown to the World
We proudly celebrated the opening of unx-gallery in Freetown, Sierra Leone—a stunning space perched above the Atlantic Ocean. This remarkable new venue was created to spotlight bold narratives and contemporary voices from Africa.

As a cornerstone of the unx-art curatorial platform, we launched our inaugural permanent gallery with "Giving Goddess Energy," a captivating solo exhibition by Sierra Leonean artist Hawa-Jane Bangura, which ran until March 30, 2025.

This opening marked a significant milestone in the journey of unx-art, following the successful release of our first artbook, "Of Souls, Ascent and Stillness" in 2022 and the debut of our digital platform unx-art.net in December 2023.

“This gallery transcended mere exhibition space—it emerged as a bold statement,” proclaimed Sarah Hachi-Duchêne, founder of unx-art. “Sierra Leone’s art scene was bursting with potential, making it the perfect moment to connect local talents with global conversations about contemporary African art.”

Bangura’s exhibition explored themes of feminine strength and emotion through her innovative multimedia practice. It showcased highlights from her renowned series "The Hair Never Lies" and "Black Athena", challenging established narratives while blending indigenous scripts with digital media.

“‘Giving Goddess Energy’ became a tribute to the stories we inherited and those we continue to craft,” Bangura reflected. We revelled in this vibrant celebration of art and culture at unx-gallery, where local narratives found their place on the world stage.
