Sarah Hachi-Duchêne - Founder & Curator, unx-art
Sarah, the founder and curator of unx-art, a digital-native platform and gallery committed to amplifying the voice of Contemporary Art from Africa within the global cultural dialogue. Her professional path—spanning technology, publishing, and cultural strategy—is shaped by a life across three continents: Africa, Europe, and North America. This layered perspective informs a curatorial approach that is as structurally aware as it is deeply engaged with artists and their narratives.
The evolution of unx-art reflects this vision. It began in 2022 with the publication of "Of Souls, Ascent and Stillness: Contemporary Artists in Abuja," followed by the launch of its editorial and curatorial platform, unx-art.net, in 2023. In 2025, the project found a permanent home in Freetown, Sierra Leone, with the opening of its first gallery space—bringing the digital commitment to visibility into a physical realm.
At the heart of unx-art is a belief that art is not only to be seen but understood. The platform selects artists whose practices engage with and expand existing narratives—often subtly, sometimes boldly—offering new readings of identity, form, and heritage. Through its editorial lens, publishing activity, and curated exhibitions, unx-art provides essential context for collectors—whether first-time buyers on the continent or seasoned patrons abroad—ensuring that each artwork lives, breathes, and resonates beyond the walls where it is shown.
In a global art world often marked by simplification, unx-art offers something different: care, depth, and a commitment to positioning Contemporary Art from Africa not as an exception, but as a vital part of the cultural conversation.
