Women of Izzi Nnodo 1 - 2023

Collage on canvas | 80 x 100cm (31 × 39 inches)

From the Artist, Uche:

"This piece is my favorite, it captures the essence of the women from Izzi Nnodo, a community nestled in Ebonyi State, south eastern Nigeria. They are depicted in a moment of jubilation, their spirits soaring high. With melodic voices, they sing odes to the tireless toil and enduring patience of their farmers, from the hopeful sowing to the bountiful harvest. Their dance is a rhythmic tribute to the earth's generosity, celebrating the cherished Feast of Ojiji, a time when the first yams are joyously welcomed. It's a visual hymn to tradition, a dance of gratitude woven into the fabric of life."
