Sor Sen

Sor Sen (b. 1985) is a Nigerian contemporary artist whose practice spans painting and photography, grounded in an enduring fascination with the human experience. He trained at Nigeria’s esteemed Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in painting.

Sor Sen’s work is a bold release of internal emotions, expressed through color and evocative linear strokes designed to awaken perception and provoke reflection. His visual language blends post-impressionism, surrealism, and abstract expressionism, exploring the space between what is seen and what is felt. His paintings are deeply conceptual, built on perceptive, dramatic imagery that invites the viewer into complex emotional and philosophical terrains.

In addition to painting, Sor Sen uses photography to capture life through the lens—transforming the camera into a tool for examining humanity. This duality allows him to weave layered narratives that explore identity, emotion, and spiritual presence.

He has exhibited widely, both in Nigeria and internationally—including in Italy and South Korea—and has held several acclaimed solo exhibitions. His work has garnered awards such as the Leonardo da Vinci International Prize in Italy and the National Library Art Competition (OOPL) in Ogun State, Nigeria.
