The artist about the series: "Man is man's medicine. This is self-evident, because for every thing we commit ourselves to, we ask ourselves: is it good or bad; should I do it or not? I see this series as a mathematical operation 1+1=2. It just means that no one wants to live without others."

About the artist
KON-T, a luminary painter from Senegal born in 1989, began his remarkable journey into the world of art at the prestigious Ecole Nationale des Arts de Dakar between 2006 and 2010, where he diligently honed his craft. His artistic vocabulary expanded through engaging explorations in comics and illustrations addressing the topic of illegal immigration at the Grand Dakar Cultural Centre, and through mastering the intricate beauty of Arabic calligraphy at the Iranian Cultural Centre in Dakar. These varied experiences laid the groundwork for a richly diverse artistic pursuit that continues to evolve.
Moved by the profound and soul-stirring rhythms of jazz music, KON-T crafts a visual narrative that is uniquely his own. His artwork is marked by a compelling contrast: dark backgrounds against figures in colors that are at times vibrant and luminous, at others, delicately pastel. This balance between darkness and light creates a story that exists in a realm both figurative and abstract, inviting the observer to look beyond the surface and uncover the deeper, emotional, and psychological stories woven into the canvas.
KON-T's artistic process is a celebration of his adventurous spirit. With a palette of tools ranging from brushes to sponges, he develops a signature style that is a confluence of various techniques, each marked by an intensity of color that speaks of conviction and a complete vision. His work is a testament to innovation, blending diverse artistic expressions and themes in a way that leaves a lasting impression on the viewer.
Since 2010, KON-T has showcased his art on prestigious stages and at significant events, starting with his first exhibition at the Galerie Nationale in Dakar. He has moved from local to international exhibitions, displaying his work in solo and group settings across Senegal, Germany, Italy, and beyond. His career is marked by memorable highlights, including his involvement in the Dark'Art Biennale in 2012 and 2018 with a notable solo exhibition at the Goethe-Institut. KON-T's art has also been a feature at various jazz festivals, from Saint Louis in Senegal to the Ebersberg Town Hall Festival in Germany. Additionally, he has contributed illustrations for Ousseynou Niang’s book “Samba and the Lion.” Through residencies in Senegal and France, he has broadened his artistic viewpoint, adding depth to his work. His artworks, which are part of collections both locally and internationally, continue to garner attention and praise. Residing and creating in Dakar, KON-T exemplifies versatility and talent, standing on the brink of a career filled with increasingly inspiring achievements.
For those who encounter his work, KON-T offers more than just visual beauty; he provides a journey into the soul of his artistic vision, promising a continuous unfolding of discovery and inspiration.
