Sarah - 2023
Mixed media on canvas | 122 x 92cm
From the Artist: "This painting is part of my advocacy against body shaming. The character Sarah in the Bible was described as very pretty, but no physical description was given. Therefore, over the years, artists have depicted her as slender, as that has been the socially imposed standard for absolute beauty. However, a wide spectrum of body sizes does exist in all societies, and all are equally attractive. Less than 100 years ago, the plus-sized woman was way more desirable for marriage than the slender size of today... I hope the work contributes its quota in combatting depression and physical and psychological abuses that arise from body shaming."
