Charisme (2024)
Mixed media | 120 x 90 cm (47 x 35 in)
From Pierre:
"Here, Charisma is not what we usually associate with the word in society. It’s more of a blend of behaviour, character, intelligence, and passion (represented by a serpent) and the ability to master that passion.
The black and white tiles symbolize the different situations in life. Someone who achieves and reaches the top truly embodies Charisma. The chair represents stability—he is grounded, holding strong, present in the moment.
He moves beyond the dream stage to enter a reality where he becomes the master of himself."

About the artist
Born on December 21, 1980, in Lomé, Togo, Pierre Akoété Segoh is a painter and emotion dissector who turned to art during a defining moment in his life. After the loss of his father at 17, he had to abandon his studies to support his mother and siblings. In the face of these challenges, art became both a means of survival and a form of self-affirmation, setting him on a journey of resilience and creative discovery.
Two pivotal moments shaped his artistic evolution: the first in 1998, when a painter-mentor encouraged him to deepen his exploration of painting, and the second in 2013, when a residency at “La Cité des Arts” in Paris broadened his perspective and refined his practice.
Segoh describes his process as “an autopsy of my emotions and passions.” His art merges human and animal forms, symbolizing the inner conflict between primal instincts and aspirations for higher meaning. Rather than protest or denunciation, his work reflects inquiry and contemplation, drawing inspiration from Saint Augustine, Aristotle, and Martin Luther King Jr.
With exhibitions in Paris and Rotterdam, and an upcoming show in Marrakech, Segoh continues to create thought-provoking narratives from his atelier in the quiet, green suburb of Lomé, bridging personal experience with universal truths.
