Dar ɔs na Jenkins Strit | House on Jenkins Street (2025)

Watercolour on Paper | 45cm x 38cm

From the Curator:

The House on Jenkins Street is both a memory and a rediscovery. As a boy, John Francis often passed this corner; decades later, after returning from exile, he was surprised to find the same body still intact. Its weathered façade and bustling surroundings became a reflection on endurance — on the fragments of Freetown that withstand the pressures of change. Through gentle washes of blue and ochre, Francis captures more than architecture; he captures a rhythm of memory. The painting celebrates the ordinary miracle of continuity — a reminder that remembrance, too, can be an act of homecoming.
