Griot II | The Storyteller II (2025)

Watercolour on Paper | 58cm x 39cm

From the Artist:

In Storyteller II, John Francis captures a Fulah griot holding a nyayaru — a single-stringed fiddle made from gourd, hide, and horsehair. Traditionally used to recount village histories, humor, and tales of war, the instrument becomes a vessel of collective memory. Rendered in delicate watercolor, the musician’s expression radiates warmth and wisdom a living archive of sound, reminding us that storytelling is both heritage and heartbeat.
