Wakabot | Commuters (2025)

Watercolour on Paper | 29cm x 41cm

From the Curator:

Wakabot, meaning “walk-about” in Krio, immerses the viewer in the vibrant flow of Bombay Street, Freetown’s bustling commercial hub. John Francis’s watercolor technique, marked by quick strokes and translucent layers, captures both movement and atmosphere — the chatter, the heat, the commerce of everyday life. The artist’s light washes blur details to reveal essence: people in motion, a city breathing. More than a street scene, it is an ode to Freetown’s resilience — a memory of community and continuity rendered through the poetry of watercolor.
