SHUKU - 2023
Mixed media on canvas | 46 x 66cm
The artist: "The 'Shuku' is the most common hairstyle in Nigeria. It suits our humid climate very well, as the hair is usually gathered in a bob off the shoulders. The work simply hopes to show that one can still be classy not only with wigs but also in our traditional braids."

About the artist
Sor Sen was born in 1985. He received his formal training from Nigeria's premier school of art, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts and subsequently a Master Fine (MFA) in painting. He is a full-time practicing artist.
Sen is intensely interested in the human experience; he also strongly believes that his works are a bold release of internal feelings through colours and evocative linear strokes in a bid to awaken the viewer thought and sight faculties.
He has previously held several acclaimed solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Nigeria and abroad, such as Italy and South Korea. In addition, his artistic prowess has earned him several prizes and widespread recognition, such as the National Library Art Contemporary competition and (OOPL) and the Leonardo Da Vinci International Prize in Italy.
