ICHAFU - 2023

Mixed media on canvas | 46 x 66cm (18 x 26 inches)

From Chike, The Artist:

"Ichafu in Igbo language means the Woman's Headtie, this traditional headtie is an accessory that adorns and completes the dressing of the African woman. The manner and design of tying also communicates various meanings and is dependent on the occasion. As a complex traditional Art form which is normally passed from mother to daughter, it requires nurturing which is difficult in today's fast paced contemporary society.

Moreover Ichafu-Ichafu in Igbo language means to cut short or reduce size, which resonates with the small size of the painting in comparison to my regular sizes which are much bigger."

Part of the Muted Elegance Series, combine 'Ichafu' with 'Lovers #1' and 'Shuku' for a striking triptych that beautifully blends delicate emotions with visual harmony, creating a compelling and cohesive centerpiece.
