Master's Vault Series: Royal People (2018)

Oil on Canvas | 98 x 107 cm

From the Curator :

"John Oyedemi's artwork depicting the Durbar vividly portrays horsemen in energetic motion, embodying themes of leadership and authority. The gold turbans represent nobility and spiritual strength, while the textured brushstrokes evoke both movement and a sense of calm control. The first rider, distinguished by a double-bunned turban, stands out as the Emir. The horses, embellished with gold, symbolize wealth and divine governance. This piece artfully combines celebration with a strong presence, employing layering techniques to create depth. A softly blurred background suggests that even as traditions evolve, the core essence of leadership remains constant."
