Fom the Artist :
"I am always fascinated by the full moon with all its brightness and radiance. As a child, there was folklores about a woman and her daughter who were maltreated by her in-laws because she did not bore a male child. They were rescued by a benevolent spirit and taken to dwell in the moon where they will monitor the suffering of her in-laws as a result of their wickedness. That is why at full moon, you can see them discussing about her in-laws. The work reversed the imaginary images in the full moon my making them to face each other in a kind of dialogue."
Shipping: Canvas provided rolled and ready to be stretched on a frame.
About the artist
Akachukwu Chukwuemeka – artist name Akabeks – was born in 1971 at Amata Mgbowo in Nigeria. He is a 1998 graduate of painting from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka in South Nigeria.
His artworks are his personal dialogues with his environment: They are like a collection of short stories where he explores social, political, cultural, and religious conversations in the neo-colonial environment. Each piece is a complete narrative, yet each completes another; they are like the tales of a society, where the story of each individual and a group come together to create the complete story.
Akabeks wants his art to be seen as a collection of short stories to occupy a spot in the soul of anybody who makes contact with it, to probe their quiet moments thought processes, and calm them like the ocean settling down after high tide.
Exhibited unx-art artworks originate from his series 'Forms from my Sky', when Akabeks decided to break out from the classic conventional oil canvas and traditional 'Uli'. The series was sparked by childhood memories of gazing at the twilight sky. It embarks on a dreamlike and dazzling series featuring a hundred paintings that showcase his ingenuity and love for experimenting.
He currently resides and practices in Abuja, Nigeria.
